The official X account for the NieR franchise states that the issue causing the increase in free space required to install the game has been identified, and that the devs are working to fix this bug. In the meantime, players can go to the game’s Properties tab in their Steam library, then navigate to DLC and uncheck the additional content to download only the base game at its normal size.

Square Enix has released a patch for NieR: Automata on PC. This update simply adds Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Korean to the RPG's list of supported languages.
However, a bug appears to have crept into this update. Steam players now need 366 GB of free space instead of the previous 50 GB. This is not a display error, but rather a new requirement. The issue seems to stem from the game’s size being mistakenly added to the size of each DLC.
A simple fix should resolve this issue, which is affecting many users. Some users have reported that the problem has already been fixed on their end, but that the file sizes remain abnormally large.
