AMD forecasts another decline in the PC market in 2027 and a surge in its data center business
, by Thibaut
Like many tech giants, AMD has released its financial results for the third quarter of 2026. The U.S. semiconductor manufacturer reported revenue of $13.4 billion for the period.
During its earnings call, the company noted that $8.5 billion (64%) of its revenue came from its data center business. This represents a 97% increase year-over-year. In 2025, this same segment accounted for 47% of the company’s total revenue. Furthermore, AMD forecasts that its revenue from data centers will double by 2027, whereas previous projections called for growth of more than 70%.
This stands in contrast to AMD’s PC business. The manufacturer is bracing for a double-digit decline in shipments in this segment by 2027. CEO Lisa Su provided some context for these forecasts.
"Looking at the market, PC sell-through slowed late in the quarter as higher memory and component costs weighed on demand. We are managing the business accordingly, aligning sell-in with sell-through to keep customer and channel inventory healthy. In 2027, we are planning for PC market unit shipments to decline by a double-digit percentage. In this environment, we expect to outperform the market as we deliver our Ryzen roadmpa and grow our commercial footprint. In Gaming, revenue declined 40% year over year to $773 million, primarily due to lower semi-custom sales as expected at this state of the console cycle."
