The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is the highest-rated game of 2026 on Metacritic

May a remake get crowned as Game of the Year That’s the question that will inevitably arise for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on Switch 2. Set to launch this Thursday, November 5, the Nintendo title has earned exceptional scores on Metacritic.
Its average score already stands at 96, based on 81 reviews. This immediately makes it the highest-rated game of 2026. It also ranks 24th among the highest-rated games of all time. The press is unanimous, and we will undoubtedly see Ocarina of Time among the GOTY nominees at the 2026 Game Awards. It won’t be the first time this has happened, as Resident Evil 2 (2019), Resident Evil 4 (2023), and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (2024) have had that honor in the past.
But will The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time manage to clinch the Holy Grail? It’s still too early to tell, and it will likely depend on a certain GTA VI.
