The Switch 2 Lite could use Samsung’s new 8LPU+ manufacturing process

In addition to the model with a removable battery, Nintendo may also be working on a Switch 2 Lite. This slimmer, more affordable console hasn’t been officially announced yet, but rumors about its components are already circulating.

According to Nintendo Patents Watch, Samsung’s upcoming 8LPU+ manufacturing process may be used for the Switch 2 Lite. The South Korean company, which will unveil this process on December 14, claims it delivers 12% higher performance and approximately 15% lower power consumption compared to the 8LPU. Of course, this doesn’t mean these optimizations will be implemented as-is in Nintendo’s potential future console.

The current Switch 2 features an NVIDIA T239 processor, manufactured by Samsung on an 8-nm process, with eight Arm Cortex-A78C CPU cores and an Ampere GPU equipped with 1,536 CUDA cores. It is therefore based on NVIDIA’s older Ampere graphics architecture.
