Microsoft’s top executives have failed to meet the Xbox compensation target for the fifth time in six years

Since taking office last February, Asha Sharma, president of Xbox, has been doing everything in her power to get the gaming division back on track. The primary goal is to restore growth across all sectors of the division.
Of course, Xbox has come a long way, and the latest revelations from the website Game File clearly demonstrate this. According to Microsoft’s latest annual report to shareholders, we learn that the American company’s executives have not received compensation tied to Xbox’s targets for quite some time. In fact, including this year (2026), this marks the fifth time in six years that the targets have not been met.
Since 2020, Microsoft’s CEO and several senior executives have been eligible for a bonus based on Xbox’s performance. This incentive was previously tied to growth in the number of Xbox Game Pass subscribers. Starting in 2023, a change was implemented to prioritize revenue growth from the brand’s content and services.
Thus, these consecutive failures demonstrate the significant gap between Microsoft’s forecasts and Xbox’s actual results.
