No one at Rockstar has the full picture of GTA VI because it's too big

Once again, Jason Schreier is sharing behind-the-scenes information about GTA VI. During his lengthy interview with Rockstar Games, the Bloomberg reporter was able to uncover a wealth of details about the game’s development. He’s now shared some new insights in a recent video.

First, he mentions that several artists at the studio began working on Grand Theft Auto VI as early as 2015—11 years ago now. Of course, almost all teams were subsequently reassigned to work on Red Dead Redemption 2. The challenging period of development for the sixth installment spanned from 2019 to 2022. Over those three years, the developers had to make tough decisions regarding the game’s more arcade-style gameplay, its weapon system, and other aspects such as the interface and menus.

For other miscellaneous details, the video reveals, among other things, that the roads in GTA VI will be narrower than those in GTA V and that traffic will be heavier. Members of the Rockstar team also visited real nightclubs to gather anecdotes about crimes and misdemeanors. When Mark Adamson, the marketing director, came up with the idea for the extended preview on Netflix, his goal was to offer something different that would leave a lasting impression. Furthermore, while the art team for GTA V consisted of only five to six people, the GTA VI art team has grown to as many as 65 artists.

Finally, Aaron Garbut, the head of development, explained that no one at Rockstar has a complete picture of GTA VI due to the sheer scale of the project.
