Lucasfilm Games wants to keep surprising fans with high-quality Star Wars games

For several years now, the Star Wars franchise has been experiencing a resurgence in the video game industry. Many high-quality projects have emerged, such as Star Wars Zero Company and Star Wars: Galactic Racer recently. Other highly promising titles, such as Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic and Star Wars Eclipse, are eagerly anticipated.

Douglas Reilly, an executive at Lucasfilm Games, discussed this new approach during an interview with The Game Business. His team is now taking a more flexible approach to Star Wars game projects, with the goal of surprising fans.

Furthermore, the company believes it doesn’t need to partner with a major publisher to produce an excellent game. It prefers to rely on experienced developers.

"You don’t have to necessarily be a top five publisher to make a great Star Wars game. We have a high-quality bar, and we want to make sure there are excellent experiences, and that means typically you work with more experienced teams than, you know, new teams who have no track record of making great things.

We’re exploring all kinds of things that large and small with partners that I think are going to continue to surprise folks [...]."
