Konami's president belives AI won't bring a significant change to the video game industry
, by Thibaut
In a report accompanying the financial year ending in March 2026, Hideki Hayakawa, president of Konami Digital Entertainment, addressed the thorny issue of generative artificial intelligence.
While he believes this technology will lower certain barriers to development, Hayakawa doesn't think it will fundamentally change the market. He believes people and creators will remain at the heart of every game.
"Even if AI use does lead to improvements in production efficiency, I believe that the most important factors in producing entertaining and innovative video games are people and creators."
Furthermore, he emphasizes that bringing together developers from different backgrounds and allowing them to exchange ideas is an irreplaceable "chemical reaction". In addition, the Konami executive sees AI as an opportunity for studios to design new experiences.
"Even when it comes to epoch-making technological innovations, Konami provides systematic support so that creators can get a grasp of new technologies, properly assess the risks they may bring, and safely apply them to game development."
