The Game Business editor-in-chief Chris Dring discussed the major releases coming up at the end of the year. According to Bahl, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 and GTA VI will be the biggest new releases of 2026. He didn’t hesitate to set The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time aside.
« No offense to Zelda, but I think GTA VI and Modern Warfare 4 are the two biggest games of the year. I think that, overall, the more players log in, the more they’ll dust off their XBOX or PlayStation and start playing again. That’s going to bring us a wider audience.
And then, I think that ultimately, what makes Call of Duty stand the test of time is the community and the social experience. The idea of being able to play with your friends, right?
When we analyze our research and ask ourselves, “What’s the most exciting thing about our games? Is it the combat or the shootouts?” the answer is actually, “My friends are there,” isn’t it? “I can spend time with my friends.”
And so, I think we remain unique in that the ability to play with friends across all platforms—from the Switch 2 this year, which is a new platform for us, to PC, Xbox, and PlayStation—is a unique opportunity. »
It remains to be seen whether the release of GTA VI on November 19 could have an impact on sales of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 and online traffic.
