According to Activision, the press no longer covers Call of Duty the way it used to

This information comes from an interview with The Game Business. Activision’s marketing director, Tyler Bahl, was asked about the press coverage of Call of Duty games.
He believes that even though the titles are covered by the press every time, the franchise’s long history means that some people forget the work that goes into each new installment, and that there is clearly a strong enthusiasm for indie games.
« [...] Call of Duty has been here for a very long time, and with that people sometimes forget that there’s so much work that goes into making these games. There’s 4,500 employees here that are trying to make the best possible experience. »
He also believes that the size of the game’s audience has been overlooked over time, as if it had become the norm. Staying on the topic of numbers, here’s another one of his responses:
« I think that’s the biggest challenge: we have 100 million players who play for free. We’ve sold 500 million copies. It’s one of the biggest franchises of all time. And we have a billion downloads for our mobile game—a figure people tend to forget, but one that’s far more significant internationally. »
The next installment, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, is set to release on October 23 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch 2. What do you think of the media coverage of the game?
