Acer believes the memory shortage won't last until 2030

Many analysts estimate that the memory shortage will continue for at least several months. More pessimistic reports had even suggested that supply constraints would persist until 2030. However, someone at Acer does not share this view...

According to Jason Chen, CEO of the Taiwanese computer manufacturer, an initial price drop could occur as early as the second half of 2027. While he isn’t categorical on this point, he notes that the sector will become more stable around the middle of 2027.

Chen even went further, stating that it is "impossible for this shortage to continue until 2030." He adds that DDR4 and DDR5 memory are no longer subject to critical shortages. The supply of processors is reportedly improving, and semiconductor manufacturers are steadily increasing their memory production rates.

Unfortunately, Jason Chen estimates that component costs will rise again in the fourth quarter of 2026, with an increase ranging from 5 to 20 percent.
