The Final Fantasy IX remake is currently on hold

After being subject of all kinds of rumors, the Final Fantasy IX remake has now completely disappeared from the radar. Some have even suggested that Square Enix may have scrapped the project.

This theory is partly supported by recent comments from Alex Donaldson of the website RPGSite. According to him, Final Fantasy IX Remake was indeed in development as a single game, rather than in multiple parts like the seventh installment. The title was likely well advanced before it began to stall for unknown reasons.

While this new version of Final Fantasy IX may not have been completely canceled, Square Enix does not currently seem inclined to resume work on the game. Of course, plans could still change.
