Ubisoft's CEO Yves Guillemot lends his support to Sony on the phase-out of physical games
, by Thibaut
PlayStation isn’t alone in its (sure-to-win) battle to phase out physical discs. While some publishers have remained silent, one has finally decided to speak out on the matter.
During a conference call to discuss the company’s financial results, Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft, was asked for his opinion on the situation. He was also asked whether there were any concerns about the direct and indirect effects of this decision (such as the disappearance of the used game market).
Guillemot generally supported Sony and is not concerned about the industry’s future. He even cited the PC market, which experienced strong growth after the transition to all-digital.
"What we saw on the PC is that it helped to grow the market. There's also some pressure for the future on the cost of machines, and being able to be only digital will help to have a more accessible machine, I would say. As you said, there are pluses and minuses. But we think it will not disturb, too much, the industry."
