The director of Final Fantasy VII: Revelation believes that modern RPGs should offer players more choices

Final Fantasy VII Revelation may only offer a single ending for everyone, but there will be numerous paths leading to it. As a result, the path to the conclusion may differ from one player to another, and that is precisely what could encourage more people to play this final installment.

That’s the view of Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of the trilogy. In an interview with 4Gamer, Hamaguchi stated that overly linear RPGs run the risk of pushing players to watch a simple “playthrough” online rather than trying the game for themselves.

"One of the things RPGs like Final Fantasy need to be wary of today is the possibility that people will simply watch a stream and be satisfied without ever playing the game themselves.

It’s a kind of crisis for the work itself—or rather, it’s not something game creators can wholeheartedly celebrate.

If people watch a livestream and it leads them to ask themselves, ‘What would I do in this situation?’ or ‘How would I experience this?’, then hopefully they’ll be inspired to try it themselves."

So this is the path Final Fantasy VII Revelation will be taking when it comes to PS5, XBOX Series, Switch 2, and PC on Spring 2027.
