Final Fantasy VII Revelation is expected to be about 200 GB

When announcing the release date for Final Fantasy VII Revelation (set for April 8, 2027), Square Enix also stated that even the physical editions would mandate a download. This is due to the massive size of this third installment.

During an interview with VGC, director Naoki Hamaguchi reconfirmed that players will be required to download additional data in order to play. Furthermore, Final Fantasy VII Revelation will be around 200 GB.

"Things are still getting worked out, but it’s probably going to be around 200GB of game. I understand there are a lot of opinions about this topic, but at the end of the day, the fact is we need to overcome the hardware to a certain extent. One thing I want to say is, even though the game will not be on the full disc, in the position we’re in, because discs may be dying out, or maybe staying, with Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, we definitely wanted to deliver some kind of physical product. That was really important to us. Trust me!"

While he is attached to physical discs, Hamaguchi added that a title released exclusively as a digital download has considerable advantages. For example, it’s possible to fine-tune the game right up until the last moment, whereas performance tests must be conducted about three months in advance to schedule the production of physical media. This means that bugs, whether major or minor, can be fixed the day before or even a few hours before release.
