In 2019, Microsoft believed it was in a position to push Sony into bankruptcy

Three and a half years ago, Microsoft's ambition wasn't just to shine in the video game market. In fact, an internal email dating back to 2019 shows that the American firm thought it could crush the competition.
In his message to Tim Stuart, Xbox's CFO, Matt Booty (the head of Xbox Studios) believes he could drive Sony out of business. "We are in a ver unique position to be able to go spend Sony out of bussiness".
Booty also takes aim at other major brands such as Amazon, pointing to "go execute on game content" in the video game sector. Other services such as Hulu and CBS All Access are considered "trivial".
In defense of this relatively decried discourse, Microsoft's spokesperson at the trial between the multinational and the FTC mentioned that the email predated (by more than 25 months) the announcement of the Activision Blizzard takeover, and was therefore unrelated to the acquisition.
