Nintendo advised Ubisoft to release the second Mario + The Rabbids on its next console

It was a marketing decision that made quite an impact on Ubisoft. While Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope was extremely well received by critics, the game was unfortunately a commercial fail. Let's remember that the first entry managed to exceed 7.5 million players.

In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Ubisoft boss Yves Guillemot revealed that Nintendo told the French publisher to wait until the launch of its next console before releasing the game.

"Nintendo has advised that it's better to do one iteration on each machine. We were a bit too early, we should have waited for the next console."

Guillemot also explains that inflation may have been one of the reasons for this failure. However, he remains optimistic about long-term success, pointing out that games like this sell over a ten-year period.
