Discord delays its age verification system until the second half of 2026

It's fair to say that the last few days have been very eventful for Discord. The platform wanted to introduce age verification for its users, which quickly sparked a huge backlash.

As a result, Discord has once again clarified its intentions and made some changes. First, the American company points out that 90% of people will never need to verify their age. This is due to “internal security systems that can determine the age of many adult users without any intervention on their part.” Furthermore, most users do not view adult content.

Discord promises that the less than 10% of users affected will be able to access options to confirm their age without having to reveal their identity. If verification is refused, the user will of course retain access to their account and all the usual features except adult content.

It is also important to note that the global rollout of this security measure has been postponed until the second half of 2026. To provide greater transparency, each verification provider and its practices will be documented on the Discord website. An explanatory article will also be published before the feature is implemented. Finally, a new channel option with spoilers will be introduced.
