Before closing, Bluepoint Games pitched two remakes to Sony

One of the biggest news stories of the week was undoubtedly the closure of Bluepoint Games. The studio behind the remakes of Demon's Souls and Shadow of the Colossus will close its doors in March.

On X, insider Detective Seeds said he managed to contact two former employees of the company to understand what happened. The two developers worked in two separate divisions. They obviously wished to remain anonymous.

First, the subject of the God of War “live service” game was raised. The project began during the production of Ragnarök, in which Bluepoint participated. Sony quickly approved this connected title proposed by the studio, but it missed several deadlines. Bluepoint realized that the game was far too ambitious for a team of 70 people. Ultimately, the Japanese manufacturer canceled the game in early 2025.

After that, Bluepoint Games did not work on any approved projects until it closed. The company proposed four game ideas, but all were rejected by PlayStation. Among these titles were two remakes of single-player games, one of which is currently in development at another studio.

In any case, the atmosphere had deteriorated significantly after the cancellation of the God of War live service game, and employees had already decided to leave. As a result, only about 50 or 60 people remained when the closure was announced. Since no projects had been approved by PlayStation, the studio's demise was expected by a large part of the team.

Finally, one of the developers interviewed, who has friends at other Sony-owned studios, suspects that some will close soon or be hit by layoffs. The identity of the studios in question has not been disclosed.
