Highguard was not initially planned for the Game Awards and should have been a shadowdrop
, by Thibaut
We are learning more and more almost daily about the fate that should have been reserved for Highguard. Announced at the close of the Game Awards last month, the free-to-play PvP shooter was supposed to be released as a surprise.
In fact, the developers have confirmed that their game was supposed to be shadowdropped without prior announcement. It was Geoff Keighley, the producer and host of The Game Awards, who asked Wildlight Entertainment to make it official during the ceremony. Keighley was apparently impressed by the project and decided to position it as the one more thing of his show.
This explains why Highguard was not seen again until its launch on Monday, January 26, 2026. There were no plans for a marketing campaign.
