Insomniac Games explains how players will switch from Peter to Miles on Spider-Man 2

The second part of the adventures of Spider-Man will introduce a wide array of new features. And while the symbiote’s costume already made a strong impression during the PlayStation Showcase demo, there’s an even more important feature that will have a real impact on gameplay.
Players will be able to switch from Peter Parker to Miles Morales at will with just a button. During the main quest missions, however, this choice will be imposed, and the switch between the two Spider-Men will take place at times predetermined by the developers. Some content has been created for each one of the Spider-men, and some can be done by both.
In the open world, the player will be able to switch at will and almost instantaneously “thanks to the power of the PS5”. Ultimately, the system will be very similar to the one on GTA V. There will be three skill trees - one for Peter, one for Miles and one common to both heroes.
