Nintendo eShop almost shut down in Russia
, by Thibaut
Russian gamers woke up to a most unpleasant surprise. As of this Wednesday, May 31, Nintendo is severely scaling back its operations in Russia. In turn, the eShop has been stripped of many of its key functions.
In a press release, the Japanese giant states that users can no longer make any new purchases on the eShop or redeem any promotional code. Only downloads of already purchased content (such as games or DLC) remain possible.
To justify its decision, Nintendo cites the country’s current “economic outlook”. These restrictions will remain in effect for as long as they deem necessary.
