Former Call of Duty director is concerned about the future of the franchise with Microsoft

In addition to recently expressing his desire to direct a new Dead Space, Glen Schofield also spoke about Call of Duty. During his career, he worked at Sledgehammer Games, where he directed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (2011), Advanced Warfare, and WWII.

In an interview with VGC, Schofield discussed the future of the franchise following Microsoft's acquisition of Activision. He was skeptical, to say the least, about the saga's success under the American giant's leadership. He pointed to the company's corporate culture and the failures of long-standing franchises such as Halo.

“I'm really worried about it, honestly. Because of what's happening to Gears of War and Halo... you know what I mean? You look at EA, you look at these big companies, and I wonder, where are these great games? And so many of them are falling by the wayside.”

Furthermore, since leaving Sledgehammer Games (which he co-founded) in 2019, Glen Schofield believes that the studio has not produced any more iconic games. He considers Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III (2023) to be mediocre and points out that Modern Warfare 3 (2011) was the last title in the franchise to win the “best action game” award.
