Battlefield 6: the game with the daunting task of restoring the franchise to its former glory
, by Quentin
While the Battlefield series enjoyed a strong reputation among fans of the genre for years, one installment tarnished its image and reshuffled the deck for the franchise. As you might expect, we are of course referring to Battlefield 2042, released on November 19, 2021, on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
Battlefield 2042: a huge disappointment...
While there was a lot of excitement when it was first announced, the release was a huge disappointment for fans. Upon its arrival, the experience was marred by numerous bugs and major technical issues, making for a very difficult start.
Players quickly realized that the game had been released too soon and wasn't really finished. Add to that huge mechanical and design issues, coupled with a severe lack of content, with very few maps to play on, extremely limited weapons, and modes that weren't really polished.
The result was clear: in just a few weeks, the majority of players left the game and anger quickly became apparent in user ratings, especially on Steam. Despite attempts by DICE and Electronic Arts to salvage the situation, they never got back the confidence of fans and those struggledf to forgive and forget.
Will Battlefield 6 be the rebirth of the franchise?
Despite everything, the saga remains strong, and there was no question of the teams leaving it at that and abandoning this universe on such a negative note. They have been working for many months on this famous comeback with what will be soberly named Battlefield 6. Seeming unwilling to repeat the same mistakes and taking player feedback very seriously, they have organized numerous and varied playtests to develop the most reliable and engaging formula for players.
We'll be able to discover this formula in a few hours, as Battlefield 6 is set to be released on October 10 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The much-loved mechanics are still there: we're talking, of course, about the destruction of the environment, which makes the action more explosive and the games less tedious. The same goes for infantry and vehicle combat, adding extra depth to the game's overall gameplay.
Promising content and interesting prospects
After being gone from Battlefield 2042 the single-player campaign is coming back in Battlefield 6, which will sure delight many of those very attached to it. As for multiplayer, you can count on Conquest, Breakthrough, and Rush modes to give us plenty of hours of entertainment.
Like virtually all multiplayer games today, Electronic Arts will be implementing a season system, with the first season arriving on October 28. It will add new maps such as Blackwell Fields, Eastwood, and Ice Lock Empire State to the game, the Strike Point and Sabotage modes, and lots of weapons, accessories, and vehicles.
This will add a considerable amount of content to the game and should continue to evolve over the coming months, especially if the game finds some resemblance of success. We should soon see whether they have learned from their mistakes and bounced back.
Another interesting addition is a Battle Royale mode, which is still very vague at the time of writing. This should arrive in the form of a free-to-play stand-alone game, similar to Warzone for Call of Duty. It remains to be seen whether Battlefield will succeed in carving out a place for itself in this universe, which has been saturated and exhausted for many years now.
