EA refused to do a Dragon Age trilogy remaster

BioWare is but a shadow of its former self now. Following the release of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Electronic Arts cut several jobs and transferred staff to other projects within the company. As a result, there are less than 100 people currently working on the next Mass Effect.

In 2022, after 24 years with the studio, Mark Darrah left BioWare. This week, he looked back on his career in an interview with MrMattyPlays on YouTube. In particular, he revealed that EA didn't want to do a remaster of the first three Dragon Age games. This project was to be in the vein of Mass Effect Legendary Edition.

"Honestly, I think they should do it. I don't think they will, but in my opinion, they should remaster the first three games. One of the things we proposed at one point, quite discreetly, was to give the first three games a second wind, as if they were a trilogy, and call it the ‘Champion's Trilogy’. Maybe we should have done that, and initially taken those three games (and maybe Veilguard), made them shine again by re-releasing them, probably as a remaster, not a remake, and saw what happened."*

Darrah also pointed out that the Dragon Age trilogy would prove more difficult to remaster than the Mass Effect trilogy. Furthermore, EA had expressed its opposition to the idea of producing remasters and did not wish to finance such a project. BioWare would have had to use its own funds to make this happen.
