Roblox is introducing a video selfie system to verify the age of teenagers
, by Quentin
Roblox is introducing new security measures, including video selfie age verification, to better protect teenagers on its platform. The changes are aimed at strengthening trust, privacy and parental control, as millions of young people play every day.
Matt Kaufman, head of security at Roblox, detailed four main areas of focus:
- Trusted connections: a system enabling users aged 13 and over to connect to verified friends or relatives.
- Age estimation: technology that analyzes a selfie video to estimate the user's age.
- Privacy tools: more options for personalizing the experience and strengthening security.
- Information for parents: more accessible data to track their children's activity.
To access trusted connections and unfiltered chat, users will have to go through this age estimation system. If the system detects an age below 13, functionalities will be automatically restricted. In the event of failure, the age will remain unconfirmed, unless the user provides proof of identity or parental authorization.
