Mafia: The Old Country isn't open world because of Mafia 3
, by Thibaut
If Mafia: The Old Country is only being sold for around €50, it's not out of pure generosity on the part of 2K Games. It's primarily because the adventure will be shorter and more condensed.
Indeed, the shock factor about this entry is all about the fact that it opts for a linear structure with no open world, unlike its predecessor. The developers at Hangar 13 recently justified their decision.
Studio president Nick Baynes reiterated to IGN "his team's desire to see players complete the story of this prequel". He added that the reception of Mafia 3 weighed heavily in this choice.
"Mafia 3, while very good, embraced the open world, and the developers seem, in hindsight, to share players' opinion on this; it just didn't suit Mafia."
Finally, IGN shared its impressions of Mafia: The Old Country while sharing some brand new footage of the game
