The PS5 Pro will get improved upscaling technology in 2026
, by Thibaut
Next year, the PS5 Pro will receive a welcome upgrade. In an interview, Mark Cerny, the console's system architect, talked about the graphical optimizations that will be made to the machine.
The collaboration with AMD was mentioned in this context. Cerny explained that progress in upscaling technology has gone "faster than expected". As a result, a new algorithm developed by AMD for Project Amethyst (Sony's next console) can now be introduced on PS5. It is already available on PC under the well-known name FSR 4.
It will be implemented on the PS5 Pro as early as 2026. This will not be a lite version of the upscaling algorithm, but the real thing, which should bring visual improvements to many games as early as next year.
Finally, Mark Cerny concluded his presentation by saying that AMD is making good progress, but that "the timetable is multi-year" when it comes to preparing the next generation of consoles. This may mean that the PS6 won't arrive for several years.
