Resident Evil Requiem was meant to be an online experience before becoming a single-player game

Capcom has revealed that Resident Evil Requiem was originally conceived as an online game with open-world elements before being rethought as a traditional single-player game.

In a development video published on Capcom's website, director Koshi Nakanishi explained that he had tested these concepts, but abandoned them after realizing that it wasn't what fans were expecting. He said, "We had some interesting ideas, but we realized it wasn't what players wanted to see or play."

Insider Dusk Golem had previously hinted at this, claiming that the project began in 2017 with Leon and Jill as protagonists, before a major reboot in 2021 following the release of Resident Evil Village.
