Hogwarts Legacy: a video review of the PS4 and Xbox One versions
, by Thibaut
Hogwarts is now available to PS4 and Xbox One players. But because Warner Bros. Games hasn't communicated much about these versions, we're going to get an in-depth look at them via a video concocted by Digital Foundry. The YouTube channel analyzed the technical features of the beloved Hogwarts Legacy on the previous generation machines.
As a result, we learn that the game runs at 720p on Xbox One S, 900p on PS4, 1080p on PS4 Pro and 1440p on Xbox One X. On each platform, the framerate is limited to 30 FPS and a specific mode allows to unlock this limitation. If the observation is satisfactory on the most powerful consoles, the PS4 and the Xbox One S prove to be unstable to say the least. Fluidity is rarely the case on these devices.
Graphically, we observe quite logically heavy concessions. If the whole remains correct, the graphics are not as well done, some elements of the different settings are missing and the shadows are less fine. Note that the environment shadows are totally absent on Xbox One, where they appear on PS4.
At last, loading times are inevitably much longer. You should expect more than 40 seconds for a quick trip. The Xbox One X version has even more problems in this area, as it takes up to 75 seconds. Moreover, opening a simple door in the wizarding school can take a good 8 seconds.
