The Nintendo Switch 2's GameChat function will require the registration of a phone number. According to Nintendo, this requirement serves as an additional security measure, and is accompanied by SMS verification during setup. For children's accounts, the number must be that of a parent or legal guardian.
GameChat lets you chat via a built-in microphone and make video calls using a dedicated camera, accessible via the console's C button. The feature will be free until March 31, 2026, after which it will be reserved for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers.
