Nintendo says Mario Kart World was originally planned for Switch
, by Quentin
In a recent “Ask the Developer” interview, Nintendo revealed that Mario Kart World was originally designed for the first Nintendo Switch, before development was transferred to Switch 2 in 2020.
Kenta Sato, the game's technical director, explains that the team was considering technical compromises: reduced graphics, lower resolution, even dropping to 30 frames per second. He describes this period as "complicated".
Development began shortly after the release of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. The transition to Switch 2 took place once the new console's specifications were better established, although the initial stages were carried out on provisional estimates.
According to Sato, the change of platform let the devs realize the game's ambitions without sacrificing fluidity or visual quality.
