Gigabyte presents the AORUS AI BOX, an RTX 5090 eGPU with Thunderbolt 5

Gigabyte appeared at Computex 2025 to show the AORUS AI BOX, a complete eGPU solution featuring a water-cooled RTX 5090 connected via Thunderbolt 5. This new standard doubles the bandwidth of Thunderbolt 3/4, reaching 80 Gbps, and also serves as an all-in-one hub with power supply and peripheral management.

The AORUS AI BOX is designed primarily for AI applications, despite ambiguous communication on Gigabyte's part. The box integrates power supply, cooling and connectivity (USB-A, USB-C, Ethernet) in a ready-to-use format. It is compatible with previous Thunderbolt standards, although Gigabyte reports a performance loss of up to 14% via this connection.

No M.2 bay is planned, but the presence of an RTX 5090 desktop GPU with 32 GB VRAM and the GB202 chip sets this model above other current eGPUs, including those based on RTX 4090. Price and availability date have yet to be announced.
