Valve says the Steam "big data leak" is nothing to worry about

Several days ago, a message posted on LinkedIn reported that a massive data leak had impacted Steam. More than 89 million files relating to the platform's users were allegedly put up for sale on the dark web for $5,000.

At long last, Valve has commented on the situation, saying there's nothing to worry about. The company explains that this was not a security breach of the Steam systems. If there was a leak, it only concerned old SMS messages containing one-time codes valid for 15 minutes. Phone numbers were also affected. But here again, Valve is reassuring.

"The leaked data did not associate the phone numbers with a Steam account, password information, payment information or other personal data."

So there's no need to change the password or phone number linked to a Steam account. Valve says it is still investigating the source of the leak.
