Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was originally set in England and called We Lost

Since Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has built up quite a reputation since its launch, fans have sought to unearth information about how it all started. Truth is, it's fair to say that a lot has changed over the course of production.

In a message posted on Reddit five years ago, Guillaume Broche, the title's director, spoke of "an ambitious AA game" planned for PC and possibly PS4 as well as Xbox One. He also spoke of a "modern 3D version of the JRPG genre with Western-style characters". There was turn-based combat and the Lune and Maelle characters from the outset.

In a video posted to present the prototype, we learn that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was originally called We Lost. Rather than being set in France, the story took place in a steampunk Victorian England, complete with zombies and even aliens.
