Codemasters confirms it has been affected by redundancies
, by Thibaut
It's been yet another dark week for the video game industry, with between 300 and 400 redundancies at Electronic Arts confirmed so far. The American company opted to reduce its workforce and cancelled certain projects, notably at Respawn Entertainment.
In a second move, racing games studio Codemasters announced it was putting the WRC franchise on ice. Now, in a press release obtained by VGC, the British studio has confirmed that it will be laying off staff. Other members of the studio will be reassigned to several EA Sports divisions.
"As a company, we are constantly evolving to meet the growing needs of our gamers and to better target our entire catalog," says the company's CEO.
"This has led us to consider reducing certain functions, while redeploying as many as possible (within EA Sports) in line with our strategic priorities."
Codemasters was acquired by Electronic Arts in 2021 for $1.2 billion.
