, by Thibaut
We now know that the eagerly-awaited Ghost of Yōtei will be released on October 2. In the meantime, Sucker Punch has talked about the story of this sequel, as well as its structure and the freedom granted to the player.
First of all, director Nate Fox recalled that the scenario will be on the theme of revenge, as protagonist Atsu will seek to bring down a group called Six of Yōtei, whose members sow death and destruction throughout Japan. The main character will wear a scarf emblazoned with the names of the warriors to be slaughtered, and the player will be able to target them in any order.
Fox added that his team had called on a number of advisors in order to respect Japanese culture as closely as possible, and this research has been integrated directly into the game to reinforce the sense of authenticity.
Jason Cornell, co-creative director of Ghost of Yōtei, gave further details.
"I also traveled to Hokkaido to research the Ainu culture, and people familiar with the culture introduced me to museums and folk crafts, which I incorporated into the project's worldview. In addition, I went into the mountains with them and experienced wild vegetable picking."
What's more, Nate Fox ended by pointing out that the map for Ghost of Yōtei is the largest ever created by the studio.
