The NieR director thinks that devs will all end up unemployed because of AI

While generative artificial intelligence possesses many faculties, it is also likely to cause major upheaval in several sectors. Video games seem to be in the front line of this, though some creators are clearly far from optimistic about the matter.

While presenting the new game The Hundred Line, the director of the NieR franchise, Yoko Taro, raised this thorny issue in an interview with Famitsu. For the Japanese creator, developers will soon be a thing of the past.

"I also think that AI will make all game creators unemployed. In 50 years' time, game creators could be treated like bards."

"I think that in the near future, we will move from an era where we can imitate the style of our favorite creators to an era where we can generate our favorite scenarios. AI will determine users' preferences and generate stories they'd like to read, and recommendation capabilities will continue to improve."
