Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores falls victim to "review bombing" on Metacritic

Overall, the reviews for the Horizon Forbidden West DLC were very positive. The aggregator Metacritic displays a score of 82%, which is quite satisfactory. Unfortunately, players do not seem to share the same opinion, as their score currently stands at a low 4/10 as we write this. In the past, the average score even dropped to 2.7/10.

SPOILER ALERT

This "review bombing" does not come out of nowhere, of course. Indeed, some internet users seem particularly upset about a specific storyline choice. Towards the end of the Burning Shores story, Aloy can enter into a romantic relationship with Seyka, a warrior who accompanies her throughout the game. A flood of homophobic comments and a wave of 0/10 ratings then rained down on Metacritic.

The site is gradually removing these harmful reviews and promises to review its moderation policy. In the coming months, more effective tools will even be deployed to prevent the publication of such messages.
