The ARK: Aquatica devs didn't know that the trailer was made using generative AI

Earlier this week, Snail Games announced ARK: Aquatica, a new DLC for ARK: Survival Evolved. Sadly, this official announcement was marred by a trailer made entirely using generative AI.

It didn't take long for the Internet to figure it out, and the trailer currently has a 1,135 likes versus 46,825 dislikes ratio on YouTube, for a total of 375,000 views. During GDC, Snail Games' chief designer Matt Kohl made a rather startling revelation.

"The marketing department used still images of some of our assets to create an AI-animated trailer. That was not part of the development team; we did not know that they were doing it."
