Also on the occasion of GDC 2025, Newzoo has shared data on consumer habits over the past year. And it's fair to say that it wasn't recent titles that were the most popular.

In 2024, 67% of hours spent playing PC games were on titles released six or more years ago. Counter-Strike 2 and Counter-Strike GO** account for 7.1% of this total. League of Legends is at 6.4%, Roblox at 6.2%, DOTA 2 at 5.8% and Fortnite at 5.4%. A further 25% of these hours were spent on titles between two and five years old. Games released in 2024 accounted for just 8%.

On consoles, games six years or older account for 44% on PlayStation and 49% on Xbox. On both platforms, titles released in 2024 account for 15%. The report also states that each Steam and PlayStation user launched 10 games in 2024. This figure is nine on Xbox. Each game was played for an average of two hours.
