PlayStation has laid off part of the Visual Arts team

Based in San Diego, the Visual Arts team is responsible for creating animations and artwork for games developed by PlayStation Studios, mostly known for their work on The Last of Us Part I.

Alas, Kotaku reports this week that this same team has been affected by redundancies. While some of these were due to the cancellation of several projects (including Bend Studio's “service game”), the departures are said to go far beyond these cancelled projects.

On LinkedIn, Abby LeMaster, who worked at Visual Arts before joining Riot Games, caught wind of the redundancies at her former employer.

"The layoffs today hit hard. PSVA let go of developers with decades of subject matter expertise; talent that will be extraordinarily difficult to recoup. This industry can be unpredictable, but the skill, experience, and passion of the people I worked with at PSVA are undeniable."
