Before getting rebooted twice, Avowed was a multiplayer take on Skyrim

In a new article by Bloomberg, we learn that Avowed, available now on Xbox Series and PC, got rebooted twice during development.

Carrie Patel, the game's director, explained that there was a change of direction back in 2021, leading to a complete reboot. This change of direction is pretty clear when we look back at the [very first trailer for the game]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3QkO8fy3tg) released in July 2020, with a look that differs greatly from that of the final game.

Prior to this reboot, Patel says that Avowed was to be a mutiplayer RPG. So much so that, internally, the game was compared to a multiplayer take on Skyrim. Also, the devs changed the very structure of the title, which was to be an open-world at first. In the end, Obsidian wento for open zones à la The Outer Worlds, rather than giving the player free reign.
