Xbox presents a generative AI model to help preserve old games

In a lengthy blog post, Microsoft presented Muse, a generative AI model whose primary objective is to understand the world of a 3D game and the player's actions within it.

This solution should also help preserve older titles by making them playable on any device, so these can be accessible to a wider audience. Fatima Kardar, Microsoft's vice-president in charge of AI in gaming, provided further details on it.

"Today, countless classic games tied to aging hardware are no longer playable by most people. Thanks to this breakthrough, we are exploring the potential for Muse to take older back catalog games from our studios and optimize them for any device."

If artificial intelligence isn't always well received, Microsoft promises that it will be up to the studios to choose how they want to use it. Initially, this technology will only be used on short interactive AI game experiences via Copilot Labs.
