Ready At Dawn didn't go through with a game for Ubisoft because the publisher wanted too many changes

During his interview on the MinnMax YouTube channel, Ready At Dawn co-founder Andrea Pessino recalled the history of the studio, which closed its doors in 2024. At that time, the company was owned by Meta.

But in its 21 years of existence, Ready At Dawn has mainly been known for its collaboration with Sony on Daxter, the two God of War for the PSP and The Order 1886. In this interview, Pessino revealed that yet another game was to be developed in partnership with Ubisoft.

Around 2008-2009, the studio was at work on a pretty ambitious third-person action game. It was to take place in a vast world, with the player taking on the role of a young woman. The combat was mainly hand-to-hand combat, and the story wasn't to be too serious. Pessino uses Horizon Zero Dawn as a comparison.

Sadly, the project never materialized into anything concrete. Blame it on Ubisoft who, during a meeting with Ready At Dawn in Paris, wanted to impose too many changes of direction on the game, starting with the heroine, whom the publisher didn't see as "badass enough" and wanted to replace with a man. The American studio then decided to end the partnership.

Sony then contacted Ready At Dawn to do God of War: Ghost of Sparta for the PSP.
