AMD claims that the RX 9000 RDNA4 is focused on desktop PCs

AMD has just confirmed that the Radeon RX 9000 RDNA 4 GPUs will be solely for desktop PCs. The company has no plans for dedicated laptop models as of now. in an interview with Notebookcheck, AMD product manager Ben Conrad explained that the priority right now is the desktop market. He hinted that RDNA4 could make its way to laptops, but only with processors with integrated GPUs, and not separate graphics cards.

AMD continues to offer integrated graphics solutions with the Ryzen AI 300 (Strix Point, Strix Halo) and the Ryzen Z2 series for handheld PCs. As for Radeon RX 7000M cards, they remain a niche, reserved just for a few high-end models. By 2025, NVIDIA is likely to dominate the notebook market with its RTX 50 series, while Intel also seems to be focusing on graphics cards for desktop PCs with Battlemage.

AMD may have chosen to skip RDNA4 and go straight to a new architecture, or simply not compete with RTX 50s. In the meantime, the company is highlighting the Radeon 8060S, a graphics chip integrated into the Strix Halo processors, which it estimates to perform as well as an RTX 4070 for laptop PCs.
