Physical game sales plummeted in the UK in 2024
, by Thibaut
The UK video game market sent a loud and clear message this past 2024. Physical games sales reached an all-time low over the past year.
Physical game revenues fell to £324.4 million over the twelve months, which is a sharp drop of 35% compared with 2023. The digital market, meanwhile, peaked at £4.29 billion between consoles, PCs and mobile devices. However, it is difficult to compare the two figures, since physical games do not (or no longer) exist on computers, smartphones and tablets.
However, digital sales still fell by 1% in 2024: 5% on PCs, a stark 15% on consoles, and rise by 2.6% on cell phones and touch-screen tablets. Subscription revenues, meanwhile, rose by 12%.
Finally, the best-selling game in the UK in 2024 was EA Sports FC 25, with 2.9 million copies sold. 80% of these copies sold were digital ones.
