The two Far Cry games currently in development are said to depart from the franchise's formula

Insider Gaming just reported on the future of Far Cry. Ubisoft is working on two new entries codenamed Blackbird and Maverick.
Maverick is an extraction shooter set in the Alaskan wilderness. In order to survive, players will have to fight each other, face wild animals and brave the elements.
The second is the next mainline game. Players will have to rescue their family, kidnapped by a cult. Said sect is conducting hallucinogenic experiments on animals and children. You must find and secure each member of the family within real 24 hours, equivalent to 72 hours in the game. You can check the time with a watch on the character's wrist.
The devs have also gone for the Snowdrop engine used on The Division and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. The movement in-game has been revised, with jumps, slides and more. The extraction shooter will also use an inventory system. Devs are reportedly concerned about the game managining to go on in the long-term... especially since XDefiant ended up being cancelled.
Internally, the devs are pretty optimistic regarding Blackbird, the true seventh entry. Originally scheduled for 2025, Ubisoft has decided to delay both games to 2026 because of the complexity of the development process.
