Yes, PlayStation is going to relaunch itself in the portable console market. Unfortunately, we shouldn't expect a standalone machine with its own game catalog. Indeed, this device will not succeed the PS Vita but will fit within the PS5 ecosystem.
According to Insider Gaming, this machine is codenamed Q Lite. It will not be based on cloud gaming but will allow remote play of PS5 games. A function already used on Vita to play PS4 games without having to use a TV. This console will require a permanent internet connection to function.
The Q Lite will likely be equipped with an 8-inch LCD touchscreen with a resolution of up to Full HD (1080p) at 60 FPS. As for the design, the prototype would resemble a DualSense controller with a screen attached. Adaptive triggers and haptic feedback will be supported. Speakers and a headphone jack will also be included.
Finally, the release of this device would be positioned between that of the PS5 with removable Blu-ray drive and that of the PS5 Pro. That is, between October 2023 and late 2024.
