The director of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth looks back on the game and explains that he wanted to avoid excessive fan service

In an interview with Eurogamer, Naoki Hamaguchi, director of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, talks about the game.

He explains that he wanted to avoid putting too much fanservice on the game, and that he wanted to mantain the suspense on what elements would change.

For him, the ending of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is one of the most significant moments in the history of the franchise, but above all, he sees it all as a trap. Here's what he said about it:

"With the original game, I was just a fan. I played the game when I was younger, and I've got my perspective on that scene as just a single fan."

"I felt if I made a decision - it has to go in this direction, we have to do it this way - that would very much make it a fan-driven thing. Maybe make it more like fan service. I kind of want to avoid doing that."
